The Need for Clean Water
|
|
Water & Disease
2.3 billion people are without basic sanitation.
1 child dies every 15 seconds
30 thousand people die daily from preventable water-related diseases
Safe water is critical in the fight against HIV/AIDS in order to prolong lives, improve health, and render medications more effective. Safe water will help to increase the lifespan of infected parents, professionals, and others - the groups that lay the foundation for a healthy society.
Water & Conflict Water is the foundation on which everything else in a community is built. Water is life, and possessing it gives power. Historically when some people don’t have access to clean water and others do, the resulting unequal distribution of power has led to conflict and violence. Without water security, there can be no sustainable development.
Water & Education
80% of illnesses in the world today can be traced to unclean water
Health and hygiene education is essential for learning how to use clean water to ensure and enhance life. Lack of knowledge of proper care and use of water is a major factor in disease and death. Unsafe water leads to outbreaks of diseases that negatively impact individuals, families, and communities. By providing safe water and sanitation you can dramatically impact the health and living conditions of rural African people.
